On December 21st, the launch ceremony of the Second Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Comprehensive Scientific Expedition Showcase (Xining) jointly organized by ISL took place at Xining Museum. Distinguished speakers at the event included An Baosheng, Vice Director of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Wang Yi, Director of the Research and Coordination Office of the National Science and Technology Infrastructure Platform Center; Zhu Shenghai, Deputy Director of Qinghai Provincial Department of Science and Technology; and Xiao Xiangdong, Deputy Mayor of Xining City.
ISL has been engaged in the research topic "Investigation and Prospective Evaluation of Salt Lake Resource Changes on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau," as part of the second comprehensive scientific expedition. The institute conducted comprehensive investigations into various aspects of salt lake resources, including their spatial and temporal distribution characteristics, types, resource endowments, development and utilization, sedimentary features, and mineralization environment. Furthermore, they extensively studied the changes in salt lake resources, influencing mechanisms, and assessed their resource-environmental carrying capacity. This scientific research serves as a basis for exploring sustainable and green development approaches for salt lake resources.
The exhibition showcased interim research achievements since the initiation of the salt lake research topic during the second scientific expedition on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau by ISL. It encompassed twelve research outcomes, covering topics such as lithium-boron mineralization in salt lakes, water environment investigations in salt lake areas of the Qaidam Basin, establishment of a salt lake resource and environmental science database, and research on the eco-friendly development of salt lake biology and salt resources. The exhibition also featured physical specimens collected during the scientific expedition, showcasing the expertise of the twelve participating experts from Qinghai Salt Lake Institute. Alongside, Associate Researcher Li Qingkuan delivered a lecture titled "The Scattered Pearls of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau: Salt Lakes." This exhibition not only displayed significant achievements and contributions of Qinghai Institute of Salt Lakes in the scientific exploration of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau but also provided a platform for the public to learn about the plateau and salt lake-related knowledge. Moreover, it facilitated communication and collaboration among participating research institutions, fostering a solid foundation for future scientific research on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Under the theme "Entering the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Safeguarding the Earth's Third Pole," the exhibition aimed to support the construction of national ecological security barriers and establish Xining as a center city for ecological civilization. The launch ceremony was attended by officials from the participating units of the second scientific expedition and this exhibition, representatives of scientific expedition personnel from Qinghai Salt Lake Institute, and the director of the Qinghai Provincial Science and Technology Department.
