SCA2014 was held in Xining hosted by Informatization Department of Bureau of Facility Support and Budget Chinese Academy of Sciences and Supercomputing Environment of Chinese Academy of Sciences (SECAS), co-hosted by Cold and Arid Regions Environmenntal and Engineering Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences and ISL on Aug 22. About 140 experts attend the meeting There are Qingcun Zeng (Academician of Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences) (AIAPCAS), Ruyun Tan (senior project officer of High Technology Research and Development Center of Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China), Mingqi Chen (director of Informatization Department of Bureau of Facility Support and Budget Chinese Academy of Sciences), Dongping Duan (Deputy director of ISL) and experts from SECAS, Intel Co., Dawning Information Industry Co., etc.
Mingqi Chen mentioned that science computing application research center without legal personality has been approved by CAS. The new generation supercomputing system “Yuan” has up online. CAS led the establishment of Supercomputing innovation alliance of China. Assessment and evaluation of SECAS and center of institutes were excellent.
Jiang Zhu, director of AIAPCAS gave a lecture titled “When supercomputing confronts big data”. Experts from AIAPCAS, Institute of Chemistry Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Peking University et al. gave 19 invited speeches. The meeting announced that the 2013 CAS supercomputing development Index (CAS SCDI) is 360.38 points, which increased 20.92% compared with 2012. But the growth rate of CAS SCDI was still under the average growth rate of 2006-2013.
