Two ISL Analytical Units Receive 2009 Honor from CAS Lanzhou Branch

Time:2010-01-10

The crews of ISL's thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TI-MS) and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) have received the honor of Analytical Units of Excellence 2009 from CAS Lanzhou Branch lately.

The TI-MS crew has strong expertise in isotopic and geochemical studies. They have made numerous notable achievements since the commissioning of the VG354 thermal ionization isotopic mass spectrometer. The unit was further improved by the addition of a new Triton thermal ionization isotopic mass spectrometer at a cost of RMB 6 million. Thanks to the joint effort of its crew members, around 600 samples have been assayed in less than half a year's time after the commissioning of this instrument.

The ICP-AES analyzer was installed in May 2009, after which 2000 samples have been measured for the assistance of chemical analysis. ICP-AES is one of the units in ISL heavily assigned this year. To put this analyzer into operation at an earliest possible time, the crew members have exceedingly worked overtime, obtaining the optimized conditions for various determination purposes.

The ISL analytical department will, on an ongoing basis, persist in rendering efficient quality service to the society.
