In order to strengthen the academic exchanges between young scholars in different disciplines at home and abroad, to promote cross-cutting and integration of disciplines, to enhance the cooperation and innovation ability of young scholars of ISL, Youth Innovation Association Group of ISL invited the Prof. Dupont-Nivet, from Ryan University and Dr. Alexander Rohrmann from University of Oregon, went to Qinghai Salt Lake for academic exchange on May 28.
Professor Guillaume gave a presentation entitled "Asian aridification and Monsoons during the India-Asia collision." Firstly, Guillaume explained the retreat process and five transgression times of the Tethys Sea during its Eocene age of 41 million years in the Tarim Basin by its research team. Then he narrated the research process and conclusion of the step-change droughts in the region since the Paleocene made by its research team and Chinese scientists in the Xining basin. They found that the gypsum layers below the Eocene-Oligocene boundary were periodically occurring, while mudstone dominated more than the boundary, with few gypsum layers. In light of recent research published by his research team and other scholars, he believes that the Asian monsoon has existed at least for the Oligocene 40 million years ago.
Alexander did a report entitled "Climate and Tectonics of the southern Central Andes, NW Argentina." (Climate and Tectonic Evolution in Central South Andes). Explained his research team to make use of single carbon isotopes and hydrogen isotopes in the South American Andean Central South evolution of the research results achieved. Their findings show that the terrain barrier to the east of the Andes is humid on its eastern side and the water vapor is transported south to the southern central Andes of the arid region. South American Low-Level Jet began delivering water vapor to the northwestern part of Argentina about 7.6 million years ago, 1.5 million years later than reported by researchers from Bolivia on the north.
