ISL Organized the 14th “Salt Lake Science and Technology Forum”

Time:2015-10-21

October 20, ISL organized the 14th “Salt Lake Science and Technology Forum” in the Conference Room on the sixth floor of ISL. Professor Zhongping Lai from China University of Geosciences and Liming Dai from University of Regina were invited to give reports. Forum was chaired by the deputy director Dongping Duan.

Professor Lai gave us a report named “the International strategy of China and the Future Direction of Earth Science”. The report reviewed the development and historical background of the earth science, introduced the future direction of earth science which influenced by the China International Strategy. The report pointed the development of earth science relied on the energy safety and the international strategy provided opportunities. In the future, Marine Science, Geography, Atmospheric and Environmental sciences, Catastrophology will gain the new development. Lai mainly worked on the optically stimulated luminescence chronology, quaternary geology and catastrophology. He has published more than 130 papers including 90 SCI papers and the papers have been quoted more than 1200 times. Now, he is the subeditors of Quaternary Research and Aeolian Research Journals and the editorial board member of International Journal of Luminescence and Applications and Methods of physics area of Geochronometria. Also, he is the editorial board member of Journal of Salt Lake Research, Frontiers of Earth Science and Journal of Lake.

Professor Dai Lingming made a report named “Mobilization of Multiphase Liquid in Porous Media with Seismic-Vibratory Stimulations”. In the report, he introduced the research development and related technological breakthrough of the Seismic-Vibratory Stimulations method using in enhance oil recovery. He pointed the method was an effective and low-cost technology in solving the oil exploitative technological difficulties. Mobilization of Multiphase Liquid in Porous Media with Seismic-Vibratory Stimulations has expensive application and technical advantages in improving the liquid minerals recovery. Dai is the lifetime professor of University of Regina, the department head of Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, and ASME member. He has published more than 200 papers and 7 academic monographs. He has obtained NSERC 20 years continuously and also obtained Canada DAS funds. He took the chair of international conferences twice and ASME and other international conference branch twice. Now, he is the committee member of several international academic committees. He has been the chairman and chief engineer of RNG Pro-Tech in Canada and lectured 20 different courses.

Finally, Huaide Cheng, an associate research fellow, made the report named “the application of phase diagrams of salt-water system in geology”. The report introduced research methods and results based on the phase chemistry applying in the geochemical process of the potash deposits in Laos, the formation mechanism and process of secondary sylvite, the influence of the continental water to the marine water.
