    The 17th Academic Salon was held by Group of Youth Innovation Promotion Association of ISL

    On June 21, The 17th Academic Salon was held by Group of Youth Innovation Promotion Association in the Conference Room on the sixth floor of ISL. At the invitation of Associate Professor Liu Xiangjun of ISL, Associate Professor Feng Song from the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Arkansas in the United States made academic exchanges and gave a report.
    Feng Song gave an academic report entitled "Climate change and Aridity: from past to future". First, Feng Song talked about the definition of drought and dryness. Then he introduced the research work and achievements of the research team in recent years from the prediction of climate change in the dryland in the future, the cause of the change in drought degree and the simulation of dryness in the past arid area. They believe that: (1) the global arid zone is expanding. By the end of the century, the global arid zone will increase by ~11% (in the case of RCP 8.5); (2) the recent arid zone expansion has not occurred in the past 1000 years; (3) the temperature rise dominates the prediction Future changes in dryness are controlled by tropical expansion and Hadley Circulation circulation.
    The academic report lasted for more than an hour, and Feng Song’s wonderful report made the participating teachers and students gain a lot. After the report, the reporters and the teachers and students at the meeting had a heated discussion and in-depth exchange on issues and aspects of interest.
